Our objective for learning the Sunnah is to save ourselves

Explained by Shaykh Ahmad As Subay'ee

The following is a summary translation taken from:

‘The story of Adam peace be upon him and Iblis’, by Imaam Muhammad ibn Abdul Wahab Lesson #5 explained by Shaykh Ahmad As Subay’ee

Shaykh Ahmad As Subay’ee: When we search for the Sunnah, and bring attention to it, and sternly adhere to it; as Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم has commanded us:

عَضُّوا عَلَيْهَا بِالنَّوَاجِذِ

Cling firmly to it with your back molar teeth.

Our objective is not to criticize those who oppose it; rather our objective is to save ourselves.  Don’t surmise that the affair is like this, so when we mention the Sunnah we say, okay bring us Bidah some we can speak about the people of Bidah. No the affair is not like this, the purpose is so that you, so that we can be saved from the desires, from Bidah, so when death comes to us we will be upon the guidance of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم, and upon the foundations of the Sunnah. As for those who desire to play that is their affair, the world will not cease by this.

This is an important point, it essential for the person of the Sunnah—when he searches for the Sunnah and its principles, and its meanings, and its verification, and working by it—it is not befitting that the first thing that comes to mind is, ‘there are some innovators, let’s go refute them’…
